About

Beliefs

Our beliefs might best be described as "merely Christian." We try to focus on the core of the Christian faith -- the central truths that are agreed upon by all Christians. We're a Protestant church, but we're "catholic" in the sense that we believe in the unity of all Christian churches, and we're "orthodox" in the sense that we believe the historic Christian faith is absolutely true, from beginning to end.

Two more labels: we're nondenominational (not affiliated with any particular protestant denomination) and evangelical (we believe Christ's message is good news that should be shared.)

As far as our substantive beliefs with respect to specific areas of the Christian faith, the best statement is probably still the oldest one -- the Apostles Creed, which dates to the 2nd century:

I believe in God,

the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried;

he descended into hell;

on the third day he rose again from the dead;

he ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;

from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and life everlasting. Amen
